Standard 1. Strategic Leadership
School executives will create conditions that result in strategically re-imaging the school’s vision, mission, and goals in the 21st century. Understanding that schools ideally prepare students for an unseen but not altogether unpredictable future, the leader creates a climate of inquiry that challenges the school community to continually re-purpose itself by building on its core values and beliefs about its preferred future and then developing a pathway to reach it.

Element A. SCHOOL VISION, MISSION AND STRATEGIC GOALS: THE SCHOOL’S IDENTITY, IN PART, IS DERIVED FROM THE VISION, MISSION, VALUES, BELIEFS AND GOALS OF THE SCHOOL, THE PROCESSES USED TO ESTABLISH THESE ATTRIBUTES, AND THE WAYS THEY ARE EMBODIED IN THE LIFE OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY. I have grown greatly throughout my journey becoming a school leader. My 'Why' and my vision have developed greatly over time. Here you will see my original vision and then my current vision, showing growth and more in-depth thinking as I evolve in my vision. One of the goals we had this year was to increase parental involvement. I surveyed parents about how they felt about their role in our school and used this information to help us in creating strategies to address this issue. Element B. LEADING CHANGE: THE SCHOOL EXECUTIVE ARTICULATES A VISION AND IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVEMENTS AND CHANGES WHICH RESULT IN IMPROVED ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS. As an administrative team at my school, we have been working with a walk through form to provide feedback to the teachers on their instruction. Through the use of a new school system-wide instructional framework, the teachers have worked diligently to adjust their practice in the way they deliver instruction. We have provided teachers with useful feedback for growth using this tool. |
Element C. SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN: THE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN PROVIDES THE STRUCTURE FOR THE VISION. VALUES, GOALS AND CHANGES NECESSARY FOR IMPROVED ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS. I have had the opportunity to be a part of the school improvement team and take lead on some of the goals that we are striving for this year. We have held meetings throughout the year and progress monitored our ability to attain the goals we have set. D. DISTRIBUTIVE LEADERSHIP: THE SCHOOL EXECUTIVE CREATES AND UTILIZES PROCESSES TO DISTRIBUTE LEADERSHIP AND DECISION MAKING THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL. I have had the opportunity to lead our parental involvement committee. Throughout the year we have hosted events throughout the year and I have used the various expertise of fellow staff member's varying strengths to help create great functions for our school. We have been focused on creating functions for our school that are fun, but also informational/helpful to our parents as we work together to grow our students here at WAVE. Attached is an agenda from a meeting as we were planning a community meeting off campus to support students and parents in their communities. You will see notes were made about projects people would take on. One teacher had connections to a community we serve and reached out to find a location to host our community meeting at. One staff member has a lot of experience with face painting, so we got her involved in helping us there. Some staff had connections to discounts on food to serve. Some staff felt more comfortable just talking to people about the curriculum since it was their personal strength. Everyone had a positive role in making this event happen for us. |
